Chapter 1978: Touching The Statue!

The Voidwalker Ancestor nodded slowly.

“That method can confirm some things, yes.”

His voice carried across the arena.

“If Max carries the true Sacred Legacy of the Five Sacred Clans, the statue of the First Progenitor will recognize it the moment he touches it directly. The sacred legacy and this statue were connected at their deepest roots. Even if the legacy changed hands, even if it hid for countless years, that connection wouldn’t just disappear.”

Max listened quietly. His enormous black dragon body stayed at the center of the shattered arena. The chaotic flames between his scales had slowly dimmed, but his golden-black eyes were still sharp. He looked at the statue, then at the Voidwalker Ancestor, then up at Freya.

He was curious about the test. More than curious. This whole time, he’d been trying to make sense of the Dimensional Keeper legacy. It had saved him against Revona’s Null Origin Tide. It had resonated with the abandoned Voidwalker end.

It had woken up the First Progenitor Arena. It had suppressed the bloodlines of the Four Sacred Clans. Even the Voidwalker Ancestor said it resembled the sacred legacy without actually being it.

If touching the statue could hand him even one more clue, Max wanted to try it.

The Voidwalker Ancestor looked at him.

“Go back to your human form first.”

Max’s dragon eyes shifted slightly.

The old man explained, “The statue doesn’t just respond to power. It responds to bloodline, origin, and legacy. Your true dragon form is powerful, but it’s also wrapped heavily in the Black Dragon Chaotic Bloodline. If you approach the First Progenitor’s statue like that, the reaction might get muddled. Let the statue sense your human foundation clearly.”

Max understood. His massive dragon head lowered slightly.

“Fine.”

The moment he said it, black-gold light began shrinking around his huge body. The transformation didn’t happen all at once. His wings folded first, turning into streams of chaotic black light that flowed back into his back.

His enormous claws pulled in, the sharp talons reshaping into fingers. The black-gold scales across his body dissolved one after another, sinking beneath his skin like fragments of night returning to blood. His long dragon body condensed, compressed, and reshaped itself under his control.

The pressure of the true dragon form faded. The enormous shadow covering the battlefield disappeared.

A few breaths later, Max stood in human form again at the center of the ruined arena. His white hair fell around his shoulders. His black robe was slightly torn from the earlier fighting, but his aura stayed calm and terrifyingly steady.

Faint traces of black-gold scales still flickered at the edges of his skin before vanishing completely. The five Divine Veins closed one by one, and the Black Dragon Chaotic Bloodline settled back into silence.

The Tier 4 Primordial Bloodline also pulled back beneath his foundation, leaving only a faint ancient pulse that even the sacred ancestors couldn’t fully read.

Dragonheart appeared in his hand for a moment, then disappeared again.

He wasn’t here to fight now. He was here to test the truth.

Freya watched him from the sky, and for the first time since her arrival, a trace of worry crossed her eyes.

“Max,” she said.

He looked up at her.

Her voice softened. “Be careful.”

Max smiled faintly. It was a small smile, but it was real.

“I will.”

For a moment, the tense mood of the arena seemed to shift. The younger geniuses of the Four Sacred Clans watched this exchange in silence.

Many of them had only known Max as the champion of the Cosmic Ascension Conference, the terrifying outsider who’d beaten Aelric, injured an Evercrest clan head, turned into a huge black dragon, and dragged ancient history back into the light.

But now, watching Freya talk to him like that, they suddenly remembered that underneath all those impossible powers, Max was also someone’s little brother.

That thought made the whole situation feel stranger. More human. More dangerous.

The head of the Valerius Clan looked impatient. “Enough delays. Let him touch the statue.”

The Voidwalker Ancestor’s gaze turned cold. “He’ll touch it because he chooses to. Not because you order him to.”

The Valerius head’s expression darkened.

The Valerius ancestor raised a hand slightly, stopping him from saying more.

“Let the test proceed.”

The four sacred ancestors stayed alert. Their auras didn’t press down on Max, but none of them relaxed either.

The four clan heads watched with heavy suspicion, while the elders of Valerius, Ashbourne, Ravenhart, and Evercrest formed protective barriers around their descendants. Above the arena, Freya’s Voidwalker forces stayed in formation, ready to act if the Four Sacred Clans tried anything.

Rose stood near the Evercrest platform, still surrounded by elders, though no one dared pressure her as harshly now. Too much had happened.

The Evercrest elders no longer knew how to treat her. She’d brought Max here as her representative, and that one decision had cracked open an ancient secret buried beneath the Four Sacred Clans themselves.

Angelina Valerius stood silently at the edge of the battlefield, looking at Max with a complicated expression. The Bloodline Legacy Battle had completely lost its original meaning.

This was no longer a contest between young geniuses fighting for legacy merit. It had turned into a trial of history, bloodline, and inheritance, with the statue of the First Progenitor about to sit in judgment.

Max started walking toward the statue. Each step echoed clearly across the arena. The shattered battlefield repaired itself faintly beneath his feet, not because the formation had fully healed, but because the First Progenitor Arena seemed to be clearing a path for him.

The light from the abandoned fifth end followed him quietly. The other four clan platforms trembled slightly as he passed, and the forbidden bloodlines inside many descendants stirred again, though not as violently as before.

Max’s own blood pulsed in response.

The closer he got to the statue, the more clearly he felt that strange connection. It wasn’t the same feeling as when he tapped into his Primordial Bloodline. It wasn’t the same as using the Black Dragon Chaotic Bloodline. It wasn’t the same as the Heavenly Luminance Divine Bloodline either. It felt deeper, stranger, and far harder to put into words.

The Dimensional Keeper legacy inside him stayed silent for now, but that silence felt deliberate, like a hidden beast watching another ancient existence from behind a closed door.

Max stopped in front of the statue. The First Progenitor towered above him. The stone face stayed calm, the eyes closed, the hand resting near its side. Up close, Max could feel the ancient pressure much more clearly. It didn’t crush him. It didn’t push him away. It just watched, even with its eyes still shut.

The entire arena held its breath.

The Valerius head said coldly, “Touch it.”

Max ignored him. He looked up at the statue and narrowed his eyes slightly.

‘If you really know something, then show me.’

Then he raised his hand. Slowly, under the eyes of the Five Sacred Clan descendants, the four sacred ancestors, the Voidwalker Ancestor, Freya, Rose, Angelina, and the countless elders gathered across the arena, Max placed his palm against the statue of the First Progenitor.

For one breath, nothing happened.

Then…
