Chapter 1979: Meeting the First Progenitor!

For one breath, the whole arena seemed to stop with Max’s hand resting against the statue of the First Progenitor.

Then another breath passed. Nothing happened. The statue stayed still. The glowing lines that had appeared earlier across its stone body didn’t grow brighter. The closed eyes stayed shut. The enormous hand resting near its side didn’t move.

The ancient pressure around the statue didn’t shift in any obvious way. Even the awakened Voidwalker end, which had been pulsing with dark starry light, went strangely quiet, as if it too were waiting for a response that refused to show up.

Three seconds passed. Five seconds passed. Ten seconds passed.

The expressions of the Four Sacred Clan leaders began to shift. The head of the Valerius Clan narrowed his eyes, and a cold smile slowly crept onto his face. The Ashbourne head crossed his arms with a heavy snort.

The Ravenhart head looked thoughtful, while the Evercrest head’s pale, injured face showed a flash of unwillingness mixed with relief. If Max really carried the Sacred Legacy of the Five Sacred Clans, there should have been an undeniable reaction the moment he touched the statue directly.

The statue had once anchored the sacred legacy. No disguise, no bloodline concealment, and no Voidwalker trick should have been able to hide the legacy from it at this close range.

Yet nothing had happened.

The younger descendants of the Four Sacred Clans started whispering again.

“So he really doesn’t carry the sacred legacy?”

“But his power woke up the fifth end.”

“Maybe the Voidwalker Ancestor was right. It’s similar, but not the true sacred legacy.”

“Then what exactly is that power?”

Rose watched nervously from the Evercrest side, her hands clenched tight. Freya stood in the sky without a word, but her gaze never left Max for even a moment.

The Voidwalker Ancestor stood above the fifth end, his eyes deep and solemn as he watched the statue. Even he seemed uncertain now, since the statue’s silence confirmed part of what he’d said, yet it also deepened the mystery around Max.

But while everyone outside saw nothing, Max was no longer standing in front of the statue.

The moment his palm touched the stone, his senses had shifted. At first, there was only silence. Then the arena, the clan platforms, Freya’s figure in the sky, Rose, Angelina, the four ancestors, the Voidwalker Ancestor, and the countless watching descendants all vanished without warning.

Max found himself standing in a different world.

There was no arena here. No clan platforms. Only a vast land beneath a starless sky. The ground under his feet looked like dark glass, smooth and endless, reflecting faint points of light that didn’t exist above him.

In the distance, countless doors floated in the air, each one half open, each one showing a different scene behind it. Some doors showed burning worlds. Some showed silent oceans. Some showed battlefields littered with broken stars. Some showed empty palaces. Some showed nothing but darkness.

Max’s eyes narrowed.

‘A dimensional world.’

He felt it right away. This place wasn’t an ordinary illusion, and it wasn’t a simple memory either. It carried the feel of sealed dimensions, hidden passages, and forgotten worlds.

It felt far too close to the deeper sensation of the Dimensional Keeper legacy, but at the same time it felt weaker, older, and incomplete, like a shadow left behind by someone who’d once touched the same source.

Then a man appeared in front of him. He stood with his back to Max, dressed in a plain long robe.

His hair was long and dark, falling down his back with no crown or ornament. His figure looked calm, not tall enough to seem monstrous, not majestic enough to resemble an emperor, yet the moment Max saw him, an invisible weight settled over his heart.

The man didn’t need to release any aura. His presence alone carried a stillness heavy enough to stop the countless floating doors from moving.

Max recognized him instantly. It was the man from the statue. The First Progenitor.

The man slowly turned around. His face matched the statue’s exactly, but alive. His eyes were deep and quiet, holding neither arrogance nor hostility. He looked at Max for a long time, as if measuring not his strength, but something hidden deeper in his foundation.

Then he spoke.

“So you’re the one carrying the current legacy.”

Max frowned. The current legacy. Those words hit harder than he expected.

He didn’t answer right away. His body stayed tense, and his senses spread out through the strange world around him.

He couldn’t feel the arena outside anymore. He couldn’t feel Freya, Rose, or the Voidwalker Ancestor. He could still feel his own powers, but they sat quiet here, as if this world had no intention of suppressing him, yet could still see every part of him clearly.

Max looked at the man in front of him and asked, “Who are you?”

The man’s expression didn’t change.

“My descendants called me many things,” he said. “Ancestor. Origin. First Progenitor. Founder of the Five Sacred Clans.”

He paused. Then his voice dropped quieter.

“But before all of that, I was the first inheritor of the Dimensional Keeper Legacy.”

Max’s pupils contracted. For a moment, even his breathing stopped.

The first inheritor of the Dimensional Keeper Legacy.

His mind raced. The forbidden bloodline of the Five Sacred Clans, the sacred legacy of the First Progenitor, the Voidwalker Clan’s connection to hidden worlds, the statue’s reaction to him, the strange pulse in his own blood, and the way his Dimensional Keeper legacy had responded to the arena all started fitting together in a way that finally made sense.

The forbidden bloodline everyone had been talking about this whole time hadn’t simply come from a man blessed by some unknown power. It came from the first inheritor of the Dimensional Keeper Legacy.

The First Progenitor wasn’t the source of the legacy. He’d been one of its inheritors. His descendants became the Five Sacred Clans because his bloodline had been transformed by that inheritance.

That was why they weren’t like ordinary humans descended from Primordials. That was why their forbidden bloodlines could rival Primordial Race bloodlines. That was why their sacred legacy felt similar to the Dimensional Keeper legacy without actually being the same thing.

It wasn’t the original source. It was a trace, an inheritance fragment, or maybe a bloodline echo left behind by the first inheritor.

Max’s frown deepened.

‘So that’s why my blood reacted.’
