Chapter 915: Chapter 293: Cheng Long’s Legacy, A Fresh Start in Life!
“Oh? So soon?” Liu Bi nodded approvingly.
Even though he was taken in yesterday, the instructions he gave to Niu Fu were carried out without any delay.
The group headed cheerfully to the trade station. Upon reaching the third floor, they saw Wang Kang still tidying up with a few people.
Originally, the third floor had five rooms. Luokuke, Wang Kang, and Cheng Ye each had a room, leaving two vacant.
Now Liu Bi took one room, and the other was divided into a kitchen and a dining room.
Pushing the door open to enter, the floor mats inside had already been replaced with sturdy wooden beds, and a wooden coffee table was placed by the bed. A screen cleverly separated the work area from the living area.
Niu Fu thoughtfully set up a simple bookshelf, tidying all the previously scattered books on the floor into perfect order.
The room lost its usual mess, gaining a sense of tidiness, yet the warmth of everyday life grew stronger.
“Come on, let’s cook!”
Cheng Ye went down to the second floor and called Lin Xu.
Two large bags full of vegetables, along with the salted fish they brought, were enough to create a bountiful spread of dishes.
Salted fish braised eggplant, garlic oil lettuce, cherry radish salad, salted fish steamed tofu, stir-fried water spinach, celery stir-fry with meat…dish after dish rich in color, taste, and aroma filled the dining table.
The cooking sizzled with enthusiasm, and Cheng Ye also opened the flour bag and kneaded a large lump of dough.
The saying goes, “Dumplings upon entering, noodles upon leaving.”
The amaranth they brought found its use perfectly, mixed with chopped pork, a bit of ginger, scallions, a splash of soy sauce, and sesame oil. The filling was savory with the fresh taste of veggies, and its fragrance wafted directly into the nose.
Luo Xiaoxue herself knew how to wrap dumplings, but watching Cheng Ye expertly kneading, rolling, and mixing the fillings, she couldn’t help but be stunned.
“I learned this a long time ago, just never had many ingredients to practice with,” Cheng Ye explained with a smile.
The enhancements from the Extraordinary Body indeed made such household chores much easier, and although he hadn’t been hands-on much since college, his skills hadn’t diminished.
As a large platter of dumplings was put to boil, Luokuke also returned after closing the inspection station.
Liu Bi took out his treasured wine and placed it opened in the center of the table. Matthew Lee, naturally good at livening up the atmosphere, quickly set the tone, and everyone began to chatter excitedly, filling the room with laughter and joy.
Only Liu Yi was darting in and out of the kitchen, now tugging at the bright green leaves, now touching the round eggplant, like an unrestrained pony, too excited to stop.
“Here it comes, the dumplings are ready!”
The delicious dumplings steamed hotly, Cheng Ye held the large tray with bowls full of dumplings inside.
It must be said, this was definitely the most extravagant meal he’d had since crossing over!
Twelve hot dishes, a platter of fragrant dumplings, plus two appetizing soups, with several cans of fruit cocktail stacked on one side, the food’s aroma filled the room, stirring the appetite.
“Come, raise your glass!”
Liu Bi, always crisp and efficient, signaled everyone to raise their glasses as soon as everyone was present.
“For the first toast, congratulations to Cheng Ye for officially completing his apprenticeship and becoming a First-stage Inspector!”
“Cheers!”
Except for Liu Yi, clutching a can of yellow peach cocktail, everyone downed their drinks in one go, smacking their lips and setting down the glasses with faces full of satisfaction.
Niu Fu immediately stepped forward to refill everyone’s glasses. As the second toast was raised, Cheng Ye stood up:
“For the second toast, here’s to Dapo Town’s flourishing future, may it become the best among all Satellite Cities!”
“Cheers!”
Once more, everyone drank their fill, and Liu Yi also took a sip of sweet syrup from her peach cocktail, her eyes happily narrowing into slits.
The third toast was poured, Cheng Ye paused, his gaze slowly sweeping across each person at the table.
He paused then softly said:
“For the third toast, I hope, no matter what the future holds, we can all live well and witness the true future together!”
“Cheers!”
Three consecutive shots of white wine downed, Cheng Ye sat back down.
Looking at the feast before him and the lively crowd around him.
Liu Bi’s family of three, Luokuke, Wang Kang, Matthew Lee, Lin Xu, Niu Fu…
Suddenly, he felt as if life had been rebooted.
Beyond the satisfaction of the food, these comrades, who fought side by side and shared his ideals, these family members who would support him no matter what, were truly worth cherishing.
He understood more clearly that what he had been fighting for was never an elusive future, nor a solitary charge into battle, but for safeguarding the present warmth and the bonds that weigh heavily in his heart.
“Hey, Cheng Ye, why are you crying?” Liu Yi stood on a chair, her chubby finger pointing at his face, innocent in her words.
“Am I?” Cheng Ye reached up to wipe his eyes, “It’s just that the white wine is too spicy, I’m not used to it.”
“Really?”
Liu Yi’s eyes widened curiously as she leaned over, her little finger dipped into the wine on the table, quickly popping it into her mouth to taste.
The next moment, she immediately furrowed her brows and shouted loudly:
“So spicy, so spicy! Yiyi’s eyes are going to cry too!”
Her words sparked laughter around the room, and the warm light drifted over everyone’s faces, carried by the evening breeze out of the house.
Passing over the tranquil night sky of Dapo Town, also floating toward the seemingly bright future.
Click.
The Advanced Defense Communication screen flickered, instantly capturing a grainy photo.
Amidst the gathered crowd, Cheng Ye at the center laughed, his features relaxed, and his youthful face seemed particularly gentle in the warm light.
