Summary
Thinking about dying beneath a heavenly tribulation may be a terrible ending for many, but for Wang Che, well, it’s terrible for him too.
After spending longer than most civilizations survive pursuing immortality, he reaches the final step only to watch everything fall apart at the worst possible moment. When consciousness returns, there are no immortal sects, no ancient cultivation clans, and no familiar path waiting for him. The world he wakes up in has never even heard of the Great Dao.
Instead, children grow up dreaming about contracting soul pets.
Humanity no longer stands alone at the top of the food chain. Powerful soul beasts exist everywhere, not as enemies to be conquered but as partners. Entire careers, schools, and social systems revolve around the bond between humans and the creatures they raise. Strength still matters, perhaps even more than before, but the rules behind that strength are completely different.
For someone who once stood near the peak of another civilization, the situation is oddly frustrating.
Experience is useful.
Being ten thousand years out of date is not.
The techniques that carried Wang Che through countless years of cultivation cannot simply be copied into this new era. The more he learns about the world, the clearer it becomes that relying on old habits is a good way to embarrass himself in front of people young enough to be considered infants by his standards.
Then comes his first contracted soul pet.
A Green Caterpillar.
Not a legendary dragon. Not a rare ancient bloodline. Just a caterpillar.
The reactions around him are about what you would expect.
Wang Che, however, has seen enough things in his life to know that first impressions are often worthless. Civilizations have risen and collapsed because people underestimated the wrong thing. Compared to that, betting on an unfashionable soul pet hardly seems reckless.
As he settles into this unfamiliar age, Wang Che finds himself dealing with research institutes, academies, competitive young Soul Masters, unusual soul beasts, and mysteries left behind by a history he never lived through. The world appears peaceful on the surface, yet traces of older stories remain buried underneath, fragments of conflicts and secrets that refuse to stay forgotten.
At its heart, this is less a story about an invincible immortal starting over and more about a man learning how to move forward after reaching the end of one road.
The only difference is that his new journey begins with a tiny green caterpillar that almost nobody believes in.
Including, at least initially, the caterpillar itself.
