Chapter 1168: The Battle 5
I swung my hand.
A gigantic void slash tore through the sky.
Unlike an ordinary blade, it didn’t simply cut through the black substance. It severed the very space occupied by the hand, slicing through the manifestation.
The black palm split. A massive section of it began disintegrating into fragments of darkness.
For a moment, it seemed as though our combined defenses were working.
Then Viserys’s voice echoed across the battlefield.
“Futile resistance.”
She lowered her gaze.
The faint smile returned to her face.
“Soul Burial.”
Every face embedded within the gigantic hand suddenly stopped screaming.
Their eyes widened and then they exploded.
One after another, millions of faces burst apart, releasing enormous quantities of Soul Force into the black hand. The entire manifestation began glowing from within, and the pressure surrounding it increased so violently that the air itself seemed to scream.
My Void Cleave began losing its effect. The black hand regenerated around the cut.
The ice covering it shattered. The roots binding its fingers snapped apart.
Sue and Dream’s temporal field fractured. Gerald’s spatial barrier began collapsing as the distance between us was forcibly compressed again.
Then the Soul Force increased once more.
It doubled.
The hand became twice as powerful in the span of a heartbeat.
Then it tripled.
Every Domain across the battlefield trembled violently.
Then it quadrupled.
The enormous hand accelerated downward.
Kaelra’s flames were extinguished.
The Elven King’s roots were pulverized. Evelyn’s Frozen World shattered across the battlefield.
Sue’s golden clock cracked. Gerald’s dimensional rifts began collapsing one after another. Even my Void Cleave was completely swallowed by the overwhelming surge of power.
The hand continued descending. I immediately activated Echo Reversion. For a fraction of a second, I thought I had escaped.
Then the Soul Force surrounding the hand fluctuated violently.
My spatial connection fractured.
“Not good.”
The technique broke apart before it could complete.
I was forced to abandon the teleportation and reinforce my body with every ounce of Soul Force I possessed.
The enormous shadow of the hand covered the entire battlefield.
I raised both arms.
The pressure descended. And then the world disappeared beneath it.
BOOM!!
For several seconds, there was nothing.
The battlefield had disappeared beneath the impact.
Where we had been standing moments earlier, an enormous crater stretched across the wasteland, its edges fractured for kilometers in every direction. Dust and debris filled the air, while remnants of shattered Domains faded slowly into the atmosphere.
The volcanic landscape created by Kaelra was gone, the endless forest of the Elven King had vanished, the Frozen World had been reduced to scattered fragments of ice, and Gerald’s dimensional rifts had collapsed completely. Even Sue’s enormous golden clock had disappeared, leaving behind only a few fading sparks of temporal energy.
Every Domain had been broken.
I slowly pushed myself out of the crater.
Pain immediately spread through my body.
My clothes were torn, blood covered my arms and chest, and several fractures ran through my body. I could feel Soul Force struggling to repair the damage, but there was something else moving beneath my flesh.
I narrowed my eyes.
It was the black liquid.
Tiny strands of that horrifying substance had entered my body when the hand struck us. They were moving through my meridians and Soul Sea, spreading like poison while attempting to burrow deeper into my existence.
I immediately sent my Soul Force toward them.
The black substance resisted.
It tried to spread farther.
I increased the pressure.
My immense Soul Force descended upon it like an ocean collapsing onto a handful of insects. The black liquid began trembling before being forcibly crushed, its fragments breaking apart until nothing remained except faint traces of energy that were immediately absorbed by my Soul Sea.
I exhaled slowly.
“That was close.”
My gaze moved across the battlefield.
The sight was far worse than my own injuries.
One of the surviving Ironhart Saints lay unconscious several dozen meters away, his body covered in blood and his armor shattered. Gerald was still standing, but barely. One arm hung uselessly at his side while he limped forward, his usually composed expression replaced by one of genuine exhaustion.
Kaelra had returned to her humanoid form.
She was on her knees, both hands pressed against the ground as blood dripped from her forehead and ran down her face. Her breathing was heavy, yet she was still conscious. Beside her, both of her daughters lay unconscious, their Dragon forms completely undone.
I turned toward the Astrals.
Dream was unconscious.
His body lay motionless amid the rubble, and there wasn’t even enough Soul Force around him to maintain his usual composure. Sue was still conscious, but she had been forced onto her knees. One hand pressed against the ground while her other arm trembled, and her clock-like eyes rotated irregularly as she struggled to stabilize herself.
The Elven King was unconscious as well.
He lay several meters away from the remnants of his shattered Domain, his bow broken beside him.
For a moment, nobody moved.
The silence was broken only by the distant sound of falling debris. We had entered this battlefield as an alliance of some of the strongest Saints across countless civilizations.
Now almost all of us were barely standing.
I slowly raised my head. Across the enormous crater, Viserys remained suspended in the air.
Her black gown moved gently in the wind.
The Soul Sanctuary was still present, though even its enormous black ocean had become slightly turbulent after the clash.
Her body slowly began to rise, lifting her above the ruined battlefield as the black ocean of her Domain continued to flow behind her. She looked down at the battered Saints scattered across the crater, and for the first time, there was a faint weariness in her expression.
“All of you have done well to survive this long, but I have little desire to prolong this any further. It is time for me to return to my rest.”
Her black eyes swept across us with cold indifference.
“However, you have demanded much of me, and such expenditure cannot go unpaid. I shall simply collect the price from your souls.”
She raised both hands.
The black ocean behind her began to churn violently, its thick surface twisting into enormous whirlpools as countless streams of darkness surged upward. Then, with a violent eruption, hundreds of enormous tentacles shot toward us.
Each tentacle writhed through the air like a living serpent, and at its tip was a grotesque mouth lined with rows of razor-sharp teeth. The sight sent a chill down my spine. Instinctively, I understood what would happen if even one of them caught me. It would not merely drain my Soul Force; it would reach directly into my soul and devour it until nothing remained.
Viserys’s voice drifted across the battlefield.
“Go.”
The tentacles surged forward.
I stepped ahead of the others.
Soul Force erupted from my body, churning through every part of my existence as I finally stopped holding back the power I had deliberately kept concealed since the beginning of this battle.
If I continued fighting without revealing my complete Domain, there was a very real possibility that we would all die here.
I raised my hand. The ancient authority within me responded.
“Domain: Veritas Dominus.”
