Summary
Chen Chen’s had sixteen years of about the most ordinary life you can imagine, and that’s the strange part, because he landed in a world where immortals cross mountains in one step and cultivators run the whole show. Instead he got dropped into a poor farming family in some village nobody’s ever heard of, where his parents worry about next season’s crops way more than they think about legends of immortality. Eventually he just stops fighting it, a tenant farmer’s kid doesn’t get to dream about cultivation, he gets to dream about making it through winter.
Right when he’s fully accepted that, the system he’d been waiting on since he first got dropped into this world finally shows up. Turns out all it really does is answer one question, “Where is it?” First time he tries it he’s almost embarrassed, because it just points him toward some missing chickens and a few buried coins and a patch of herbs somebody forgot about. Nothing close to the miracle cheat he’d been hoping for. But he keeps poking at it anyway, and slowly it hits him just how much you can do when you always know exactly where to look.
Once that sinks in, everything shifts. A rock that looks worthless might be sitting on a fortune, some forgotten stretch of forest could be hiding medicine nobody’s ever bothered to find, and a walk into the mountains stops feeling random once you already know what’s waiting there. Even with all that, Chen Chen isn’t reckless about it, most of what he does early on stays practical, feeding his family, paying off debts that have been hanging over them for years, cultivation can wait.
His real shot at the cultivation path shows up eventually, though nothing like the big moment he used to picture in his head. By then he’s already figured out that finding something valuable and actually keeping it are two completely different problems, powerful people don’t care much for fairness, and playing it safe isn’t always the smart play. Once he’s out of the village, the questions he’s asking the system stop being about missing chickens and start reaching toward ancient treasure, missing people, places other folks spend years hunting for. The system just opens the door. Walking through it is on him.
