Chapter 923: Chapter 921 – Five Remain

Chapter 921 – Five Remain

The survivors of the Southern Army returned to Lihin-Stetten.

On the journey back, the son of the Great Emperor—now the newly crowned King—spoke.

“We lost. And the defeated have no voice.”

One of his adjutants responded cautiously.

“There are still hardliners left in the homeland, my King.”

The hardliners were those who still clung to the Great Emperor’s will—fools who believed that world domination was the sole reason for Lihin-Stetten’s existence.

“Why? Do you think I am so weak that I will be swayed by them?”

“Not at all.”

The Great Emperor had made many arrangements before his death, and one of them was specifically for the son who would inherit everything.

Now, Lihin-Stetten would fight not to covet foreign lands, but to protect those residing within its own borders.

The Great Emperor’s son might have appeared frail on the outside, but if he were truly weak, he would never have made it this far.

After all, he had managed to protect the majority of his army through the treaty.

The Embankment Treaty.

This was the official name of the agreement.

It would be recorded as such in the history books and proclaimed across the continent.

‘Lihin-Stetten becomes the Embankment.’

The primary condition of the treaty was that they would serve as a barrier, preventing the Demonic Realm from spilling over into the rest of the continent.

“The Crimson Cloak Knights will lend their aid.”

That was the promise of Krang.

The King was a man of a different caliber.

The two nations agreed to build a fortress city where the front lines once stood and pledged mutual assistance, discussing the deployment of their respective Knight Orders.

Lihin-Stetten had no choice but to keep the promise.

Naurillia held the upper hand, so the choice belonged to Krang.

And Krang, instead of using his power to oppress Lihin-Stetten, chose to discuss coexistence.

“I express my gratitude once again.”

Just before parting ways, the King of the South bowed his head.

Krang laughed, dismissing the formality.

“I hope to build a friendship with you as well.”

Krang’s complexion was poor, perhaps due to the heavy burdens of the past few days.

The King of the South assumed it was because of him.

Of course, that was a misunderstanding.

Krang’s pallor was entirely due to his friend, who had barely returned from the brink of death.

Regardless, the war between Naurillia and Lihin-Stetten finally came to an end after decades of conflict.

Though he wasn’t quite a “Knight of the End,” the name of the Knight Order that ended the war spread far and wide.

If the Crimson Cloaks had protected, the Madmen had finished it.

Such was the story spreading across the continent.

“Do you know the name of the man who ended the war with his demonic charm?”

“Enkrid the Madman!”

Many bards composed songs about him.

Garrett, who had once served as the Battalion Commander in Green Pearl, arrived a little late and missed the party, but he joined in and learned a few songs to sing along.

“I want to shout from the rooftops that all of this was obvious, that I predicted this!”

Noah, the Pope of the Holy City Legion and a close friend of a certain someone, said with a smile.

The sunlight streaming through the window was unusually warm today.

The leaves of a potted plant on the sill soaked up the sun.

An aide standing behind the Pope replied.

“You prayed and wished for it countless times.”

At those words, the Ragged Saint laughed heartily.

“It was a very earnest prayer.”

After Noah ascended to the papacy, the wandering saint had temporarily set aside his own work to become the Pope’s advisor.

Since he was in Legion, the Ragged Saint had also heard of Audin’s exploits.

He thought it was truly fitting for his son.

‘You always liked helping people more than fighting them.’

On the surface, he looked like a brute specialized in beating people up, but his heart was the opposite.

‘Not that he dislikes fighting, either.’

His priorities were just clear.

And he had met a Captain with a similar disposition.

‘That’s why he follows him.’

The Ragged Saint, Audin’s adoptive father, looked at the blue sky outside the window.

‘So, are you satisfied now?’

While he asked his son internally, Noah looked up at the same sky.

‘What you wished for has come true.’

The knight who dreamed of ending the war had truly ended it.

It was hard to imagine how he felt right now.

‘Are you happy?’

He simply asked the question in his heart.

He decided to send a letter asking him to visit if he had the chance.

He wanted to hear the story of his exploits in person.

Similarly, the King of Aspen, upon hearing the news, discussed ways to become an eternal ally in a serious tone.

The council responsible for the Trade Cities even considered swearing loyalty to the King of Naurillia.

Some places remained relatively quiet, but most focused on the future moves of the King of Naurillia and Enkrid.

And Krang, without forcing loyalty oaths on anyone, simply returned to the capital and held a memorial service for the fallen.

Enkrid did the same.

Returning to the Border Guard, he spent his time much like before.

The only peculiarity was that it took over a month for the Madmen Knights to return after the war ended.

They needed time to recover before they could move.

Very few people knew about the incident where Enkrid had a hole punched through his stomach.

“I thought you were late because you hid a honey pot in the South, but it was because you had a hole in your stomach?”

Krais, his face pale as a sheet, pretended to be nonchalant.

“Were you worried?”

“Worried? As if. If the Captain died, I’d have thrown every responsibility away, run off, and achieved my long-cherished ambition.”

Even if Enkrid had actually died, Krais wouldn’t have run away.

He carried too much on his shoulders for that.

Knowing this, his bodyguard and lover, Nurat, stayed silently by his side.

“You almost died?”

Esther welcomed him, too.

She opened the door and walked in while Enkrid was changing clothes in his quarters.

The Witch approached with soft steps and ran her hand over the scar on his stomach.

“The wound is deep.”

“Still, I lived.”

Enkrid replied simply.

Esther didn’t say much else.

He had returned.

To the Border Guard—a place he could now rightly call home.

“Good to be alive?”

As he threw on some clothes and stepped out, Rem giggled and asked the question he had been asking the entire way back.

“Very much.”

Enkrid was honest.

“What happened here is practically a mystery.”

Temarress repeated what he had said on the journey.

The Dragonkin could have just left, but he stayed by Enkrid’s side without a word.

And when Enkrid had just come back to life, Temarress had unhesitatingly cut his own palm with a fingernail to feed him blood.

“My blood is a treasure coveted by all mankind. Drink.”

Enkrid had swallowed a few drops of the blood at the forceful gesture.

Temarress’s words were not a lie.

His blood instantly boosted the body’s energy.

Even Enkrid’s Will reacted and surged.

It was the moment that allowed him to endure those five days.

Temarress added that while his blood was like medicine, it wouldn’t always have this effect.

“Even feeding you countless times was useless before.”

Temarress muttered.

The reason no one was surprised by this was that Temarress had already demonstrated the same action several times.

“Perhaps the Goddess of Fortune fell for your demonic charm.”

Luagarne joked in her joy.

“Even seducing a Goddess?”

Shinar played along.

There wasn’t a single person who wasn’t happy that he was alive.

Especially Ragna, since the Captain had almost died while fighting alongside him.

If Enkrid had died, Ragna would have entered the Demonic Realm without hesitation.

He would have pointed his sword at every existence living there.

Rem used his head and utilized strategy, but Ragna was different.

He wasn’t the type to listen if someone tried to stop him.

“You need to rest properly for at least a week. I’ll make medicine, so drink it in the evening and sleep.”

Anne said after examining Enkrid’s condition.

Dark circles under his eyes, rough skin.

His energy was drained like never before.

Naturally, after seeing Ragna’s wounds, she fed him her medicine as well.

“You weren’t taken by surprise.”

Seeing the wound, Jaxen grasped how Enkrid had been defeated.

He lost in a head-to-head fight.

Moreover, the opponent’s sword strike had cleanly pierced even the Beelrog leather.

‘How?’

A refined thrust.

Perfectly controlling Will or killing intent, concentrating force on a single point to pierce.

Jaxen’s gaze sank.

As soon as he saw Enkrid’s wound, he fell into deep thought.

The thrust itself was a skill of a different level.

‘Can I do it?’

Jaxen gauged internally whether he could deliver a strike of the same power.

If he prepared with determination, it was possible.

If he had a relic comparable to an Inscribed Weapon—specifically one specialized for thrusting—and time to refine his killing intent.

‘Then what about executing it instantly while fighting?’

That was difficult.

Jaxen’s brow furrowed.

If someone asked if he could do it while facing the direction-blind bastard and the Captain simultaneously, he would keep his mouth shut.

Since he couldn’t bring himself to say he couldn’t do it even if he died, he chose silence.

Enkrid read Jaxen’s inner thoughts.

Already, the entire Knight Order, including Rem, Ragna, and Audin, had gone through a similar process.

The funny thing was that everyone became quiet.

It was because they didn’t want to admit they couldn’t do it.

“Next time we meet, I’ll cut him down.”

Ragna said this.

“What can he do if I just throw stones from afar? Huh?”

Rem bluffed, and everyone put forward their specialties.

“That brother already has a seat reserved next to the Lord, he won’t have a chance to swing his sword if we stick close to him, though I don’t know his name or face.”

Even Audin chimed in.

Enkrid didn’t say much in particular.

When he came back from the dead, he struggled not to die again, and when he barely caught his breath, he had no energy to look around because he was ruminating on what he had realized while repeating ‘today’.

Now, he was just happy to be alive and back in the city.

“You returned? Congratulations on the victory.”

It was especially good to see Vengeance, the Sheriff who had become a father.

Because of people like this, his fight had value.

“Yeah. We won.”

The end of the war.

The hero who ended the war faithfully followed the healer’s orders.

Enkrid focused on recovery and recalled the events that happened after the fight ended—specifically, after he woke up five days later—one by one.

A series of events hard to ignore.

“Should I offer praise? I didn’t know you would kill the Parasitic Demon. Was hiding the Dragonkin there intentional?”

It happened when the hole in his stomach had just been filled.

After he had barely survived the fifth day.

It was also the moment he regained his energy after suffering for three more days without even dreaming, then waking up and barely swallowing some porridge.

Enkrid looked at a soldier who approached him and spoke abruptly.

Looking closely, the soldier’s eyeballs were entirely black.

He looked possessed by something or an evil spirit.

“Why don’t you introduce yourself first?”

Enkrid said, putting soup in his mouth.

The spoon entered his mouth.

“Pleasure to meet you. I am the King of All Beasts.”

The soldier said.

Looking at the creaking mouth and limbs, the identity of the contents was obvious.

Furthermore, he had heard the introduction.

One of the Lords of the Demonic Realm.

He continued without showing even a bit of displeasure at Enkrid’s nonchalance.

“Let’s fight together. I’m not asking you to come under my command. I will give you an equal position by my side.”

At this point, there was no choice but to ask.

“So what do I get?”

What was he offering to come at him like this?

Enkrid put the spoon in his mouth, took it out, and let his hand hang down.

The Beast King, through the eyes of the soldier sent with a fragment of his consciousness, looked at the spoon held in Enkrid’s hanging hand.

He had taken a spoon as a weapon instead of the broken Dawn.

No matter how you looked at it, he was a truly amazing guy.

Even with his body in a mess, he prepared to fight holding a single spoon.

A guy who would make even Beelrog, the Demon of Strife, weep.

Ignoring his internal thoughts, the Beast King answered without pausing.

“Information, life, and everything else you desire.”

He didn’t beat around the bush.

There was no need.

State what is desired, and if rejected, that’s it.

“Information?”

Enkrid asked back.

“There are a total of six Lords ruling the Demonic Realm. You killed one of them. I will tell you in advance what the rest are doing.”

Meaning he would volunteer to be a spy.

Enkrid counted the numbers as if he didn’t even hear the offer.

“Five remain.”

The Beast King received his words without fluster.

“Right, let’s kill the remaining four together. Wasn’t that what you wanted? Then the two of us can fight after that.”

The proposal was like honey.

It sounded good, appropriate, and advantageous.

“I’m not asking you to come to the Demonic Realm specifically to do something. I will pick a fight from this side, so just lend a hand.”

“Anyway, you pick only insidious things to do alone.”

Black soot appeared behind the soldier, and a new voice intervened.

The tone felt strangely cautious to Enkrid.

It was like a whisper meant only for Enkrid, even though the entity had enough power to make the surroundings ring loudly if desired.

Following the Beast King, it was a message from the Wraith King.

Part of the Wraith King’s consciousness approached as soot to convey his will.

“You’d be better off holding hands with me. I am far superior to that smelly bird-brain.”

The Beast King sneered at him.

Seeing him convey his will only with tone without changing expression, one would say he certainly possessed extraordinary ability.

“The arrogance to call yourself superior with your own mouth.”

Though they didn’t outwardly reveal emotions, the relationship between the two didn’t look particularly good.

Enkrid observed his own body condition.

It was certainly a severe injury.

Right now, he was in a state where it would be hard to beat even Fel.

But did that mean he couldn’t say what needed to be said?

If he were such a human, he wouldn’t have come this far.

“Wait.”

Enkrid spoke to the two Lords of the Demonic Realm.

Will was contained in those words.

A thick will, no different from the Dragon Tongue a Dragonkin spews.

Or perhaps it was closer to an oath.

A resolve as thick as Cypress’s vow.

“I’ll kill you all, so just wait right there.”

No compromise.

No negotiation.

Enkrid set his will, and there was no wavering in it.

“…A guy harder to communicate with than me.”

“A guy more troublesome than Pure White.”

“If he hung out with Distrust, they would get along quite well.”

Starting from the Beast King, the entities spoke a word each in turn, then scattered like smoke and disappeared.

Watching the soldier fall with a thud, everyone, including Rem and Ragna, stepped up from behind.

“Right, let’s kill them all. I will be with you by your side.”

Shinar added her will to Enkrid’s words.

“Won’t you be sad if you leave me out? Huh?”

Rem also added a word.

The demon’s visit was one of the things that happened after crossing the wall called ‘today’.

Besides that, there were other matters remaining that couldn’t be ignored.

“Take Aurelia, too.”

The words Cypress spoke abruptly were one of them.
