Summary
Lin Fan’s got this tiny restaurant in Shanghai that’s barely holding on, rent’s always a stretch and business never really picks up, and every week his mom’s calling to ask the same thing, when’s he gonna find a girlfriend already. He just laughs it off because honestly keeping the place open matters way more to him right now than dating anybody.
Then out of nowhere this sign-in system shows up, and all it really wants from him is to check in once a day. Sounds like nothing at first, almost a joke, until the stuff it’s giving him turns out to be completely real. It’s not cash falling out of the sky or anything like that, it’s actual property deeds and car titles and company shares, and every single one of them comes with a paper trail so clean there’s nothing to even question.
You’d think most guys would be showing this off within a week. Lin Fan just goes back to cooking the next morning like it’s any other day, still eating at the same cheap places he always has, still treating his regulars the exact same way. Only real difference is once he’s done closing up the restaurant, he’s driving home in a car most people will never get to see in person, and then he’s spending the night in some lakeside mansion that’s apparently his now.
And it’s not only money either. The system starts throwing in skills too, cooking and medicine and music and business, things that would normally take someone their whole life to learn, and his world just keeps getting a little bigger without him ever really trying to make a thing of it. People start noticing anyway, because word gets around when the quiet restaurant guy keeps somehow knowing more than he should.
Being rich brings its own mess along with it though, new people showing up wanting something from him, deals landing in his lap he never expected, and eventually even romance manages to find him. Through all of it he’s still just after the same simple stuff, good food, people worth sharing it with, and whatever tomorrow’s check-in ends up bringing his way.
