Chapter 784: Chapter 260: Developing Conflicts, Sales Team! (Part 2)
This involves favoritism in resource allocation, with good materials undoubtedly being prioritized for key areas.
While it seems the troubles are over, in truth, bigger problems are brewing.
The two of them went up to the fifth floor, and just as they reached the door, the two adjacent doors suddenly clicked open.
Zhu Xiang and Wu Zhihong each poked their heads out, and upon seeing Cheng Ye, their eyes quickly swept over Old Sun, then greeted him with a smile, “Sir, you’re finally back!”
“Where’s Huang Sheng?”
The Public Works Bureau has been rushing deadlines lately, and he’s been tied up at the construction site, so busy that he hasn’t been back to the complex for several days,” Zhu Xiang promptly replied.
“Alright, once Old Sun leaves, you two come in; I have some matters to arrange,” Cheng Ye instructed.
“Yes!” The two immediately broke into excited smiles, having evidently waited for him for quite some time.
Cheng Ye took out his keys and opened the door.
As the lights came on, the expected layer of dust over the room was nowhere to be seen.
The room was as tidy as when he left, and there were several boxes piled on the floor, containing materials and books sent by the Elder while he was hospitalized at Rebirth Medical.
His gaze shifted to a hanging note on the wall by the door, which had dates marked every two days, each followed by Mu Shuang’s signature.
There was no need to guess; it was clear that Mu Shuang had brought people to clean every two days, keeping the room this clean.
“Have a seat,” Cheng Ye gestured for Old Sun to sit on the sofa, while he went over to the work desk and touched the kettle.
As expected, it was full; evidently, Mu Shuang had even replenished the water while cleaning.
He casually grabbed a cup from the windowsill, poured a cup for Old Sun, poured one for himself, and took a few sips before speaking, “You’ve been waiting downstairs for me, not just one or two days, right?”
“Um…” Old Sun was taken aback, then managed a wry smile, “Inspector Cheng, let’s not beat around the bush. Now with over a hundred procurement agents at the Industrial Bureau, we’re all almost half-idle, with nothing to do daily. Initially, everyone hoped for fair competition in the Satellite City procurements. I was also confident in securing the best prices and materials for Dapo Town, but now Station Chief Lei has completely choked off that privilege…”
“You want me to stand up for you all?” Cheng Ye directly interrupted him, his tone carrying a slight challenge, “Station Chief Lei is the Fifth-stage Inspector. I’m just an Intern Inspector; do you think my negotiation with him will be effective?”
Old Sun was immediately at a loss for words, his expression shifting slightly darker.
He hadn’t really expected Cheng Ye to single-handedly break through the deadlock, but with all the procurement agents trying to communicate with familiar inspectors, if a substantial number of inspectors lodged a joint protest, perhaps the Industrial Bureau might rescind the order and restore the previous competitive mode.
But Cheng Ye’s words dashed half of his hopes.
However, quickly, a glimmer of hope returned to his eyes.
“Station Chief Lei, is there a difference in the quality of materials allocated to the Satellite City?”
“Of course, there is a difference; I can guarantee it!” Old Sun nodded immediately, affirmatively, “Now all materials are divided into three grades: excellent, ordinary, and substandard, and because of the current rush period, the probability of substandard goods is increasing, and it won’t decrease in the short term. The larger Satellite Cities are getting all the excellent goods, while the smaller Satellite Cities have to split the ordinary and substandard goods among them. If they’re unlucky, half of what they get might be substandard.”
Sure enough, the tension of development is taking shape as expected.
Cheng Ye rubbed his brow, feeling that compared to these bureaucratic power games, dealing with sources of infection was obviously simpler.
He was not worried that Lei Hu would send substandard goods to Dapo Town, as Lei Hu knew about the collection of Immortal Objects and wouldn’t be foolish enough to offend this rising star.
But what about those small Satellite Cities?
For instance, the Satellite City managed by Matthew Lee might become a victim of this “unfair distribution.”
Originally a dispute between the Satellite Cities and the Industrial Bureau, it has now morphed into an internal conflict at the inspection stations.
It’s unclear what Old Ding is thinking. During the report at the inspection station tomorrow, it might be a good opportunity to feel him out.
“Alright, Old Sun, don’t mull over matters at the Industrial Bureau anymore.”
Cheng Ye downed his water, speaking calmly, “Since it’s a rule set from above, even if inspectors jointly protest, it’s unrealistic to revert to the previous chaotic competition state. Satellite City construction requires priority, and the larger Satellite Cities getting excellent materials ensures a solid foundation. As for substandard goods, if they’ve been released from the factory, it means they’re usable, though admittedly with some inconvenience.”
Hearing this, Old Sun’s expression visibly froze, the light in his eyes dimming, full of disappointment.
After over twenty years of struggling in Happiness City, over a hundred procurement agents had eagerly awaited the construction of Satellite Cities for a chance to shine, but now one command had “forcibly retired” everyone, turning all aspirations into bubbles. They were left in the Buffer Zone to scrape by on basic wages.
To outsiders, getting paid without working might seem brag-worthy.
Old Sun had thought so, too, but having experienced the “glory days” during the procurement battles, falling back to the bottom made such “leisure” a torment, incapable of returning to his previous mindset.
“But don’t lose heart; I actually have a job for you,” Cheng Ye abruptly shifted the topic.
Old Sun’s head snapped up, eyes rekindled with light, forcing a smile, “Inspector Cheng, please go ahead!”
“Come next spring, I plan to recruit a batch of salespeople in Dapo Town, specifically to promote various products from Dapo Town,” Cheng Ye looked at him, “Are you interested in coming over for a part-time job? No need to quit your job at the Industrial Bureau, you can manage both.”
