Chapter 766: Chapter 255: Multiple Fronts Unlocked, Drastic Changes in the Buffer Zone!
Cheng Ye had never fully grasped just how fast construction in the Wasteland could be.
He had tried to compare it with those modern modular assembly construction teams, but concluded that they couldn’t hold a candle to the Wastelanders.
This was because, in this land, the relatively high labor costs were almost negligible.
Happiness City featured a complete resource circulation system, so as long as the workers’ wages circulated within the system, the actual cost incurred was only one-tenth of the total wages.
More importantly, there were no environmental restrictions, no concerns about disturbing the residents, and no fixed breaks or construction time divisions.
The genuine triple-shift, round-the-clock high-intensity operation mode pushed construction efficiency to the extreme.
The only factors that could restrict progress were the availability of building materials and the construction cycle required by some materials themselves.
“Brother Cheng…” Wang Kang followed Cheng Ye out of the alleyway and was utterly stunned the moment he saw the scene before him.
The chaotic construction site that had recently been surrounded by a green protective net had vanished without a trace, replaced by a well-planned and already somewhat developed pedestrian street.
The ground was paved with terrazzo tiles over a meter long and wide, interwoven with silver-gray metal lines within the light gray base, reflecting a crisp and clean luster in the sunlight with a sense of simplicity and high-end quality.
Near the entrance of the street was a planned market stall area, with the ground marked out with yellow spray paint to delineate the neat outlines of the stalls, each pre-equipped with foldable metal shelves and transparent canopies.
Behind each stall were uniform gray-green trash bins and wash stations, with gray steel frames paired with white waterproof canvas, ensuring both practicality and cleanliness.
In the center of the area, there was even a shared tool room, with electronic scales, packing machines, and other equipment neatly arranged inside glass doors, and a bulletin board on the wall for real-time updates on material recycling prices and demand information.
Midway down the pedestrian street was the community shop area, using a reinforced concrete frame combined with solid brick walls, robust enough to handle the complex Wasteland environment.
The exterior walls were clad with white matte ceramic panels, with seams finished with ultra-thin silver metal strips, surprisingly recreating a touch of the minimalist and exquisite aesthetics of a modern “Apple Store.”
And in the center of the store area, the Celestial Essence Medical Clinic, which Cheng Ye had been concerned about, was particularly eye-catching.
This four-story building might not be noticeable in other districts, but standing at the heart of the pedestrian street, it naturally became the visual focal point of the block.
It employed a reinforced concrete core tube structure, with a unique island-style cascading design, each floor extending outward by 1.2 meters to form a terraced three-dimensional shape, imbuing it with a strong modern sensibility, even though the lighting bands under the terraces hadn’t been lit yet.
Its facade was nearly entirely covered with ultra-clear tempered glass curtain walls, extending from the ground to the top floor, giving it a sense of transparency, and on the top were the four metal sans-serif characters of “Celestial Essence Medical,” designed unobstructedly to be visible from any angle.
As for the factory area at the end of the pedestrian street, construction had not yet begun.
The area was enclosed by a double-layered plant barrier, with a rumbling sound emanating from inside, barely revealing hundreds of workers and working excavators and cranes within.
“This…”
Cheng Ye could hardly believe his eyes, the scene before him was so impactful, the wave of emotions it brought felt almost as overwhelming as the joy he experienced when he first acquired extraordinary powers.
Was this the pedestrian street he had planned with his own hands and waited so long for?
No!
This is my pedestrian street!
Two figures in blue work clothes swiftly emerged from the block. Upon seeing Cheng Ye and Wang Kang standing at the street entrance, they nearly broke into a sprint, the speed of the Fake Embryo Realm fully unleashed.
Long and Er Long dashed over like they were in a hundred-meter sprint, their faces lit up with smiles so bright they seemed about to burst.
Er Long, halfway through, suddenly turned back, evidently heading to the mall to inform the three Elder Qu.
Long, on the other hand, charged straight to Cheng Ye, shouting, “Sir! Sir, you’re finally back!”
Why was everyone so excited to see me?
Cheng Ye paused, quickly reorganizing the memory disrupted by the treatment with the Immortal Objects and hospitalization, a comforting warmth rising in his heart.
Finally back, the familiar people and things were still here.
Long reached him and circled Cheng Ye, carefully inspecting him up and down, relieved only upon confirming he wasn’t injured, speaking with lingering fear, “Sir, you’ve been away for a month! The broadcast said… Dapo Town was sealed off, we didn’t have a clue where you’d gone!”
“When did the broadcast say Dapo Town was sealed?” Cheng Ye was surprised, he hadn’t heard anything related to Dapo Town on the broadcasts these past few days.
“It was sealed off on the third day after you left, citing a dangerous situation being handled, strictly forbidding anyone from approaching, we were terrified.”
Long explaining, then turned to Wang Kang, with a genuine smile on his face, “Inspector Wang, you’ve returned safely as well, that’s great!”
No wonder the community responded so eagerly, communication was cut off when Dapo Town was sealed, and he had been an absentee manager for a month, these people must have been terribly worried.
“Don’t worry, it won’t happen again, Dapo Town over there… is already completely settled.”
Cheng Ye nodded slightly, his gaze returning to the bustling street, full of admiration in his tone, “The frame was built so quickly, I can hardly believe it.”
