Chapter 748: Chapter 249: Extraordinary Three States, Regular Reversal Control!

The Infection Source Research Institute was officially established in the eighth year of the New Era, while Cheng Wu led a group of inspectors to defect exactly three years later in the eleventh year of the New Era.

However, before the official unveiling of the research institute, an internal dedicated research facility was already set up within the inspection station, specifically responsible for decrypting and researching infection sources.

With this preliminary foundation, today’s Infection Source Research Institute must already have a complete prototype, and the eighth year of the New Era was merely the completion of the final site selection, construction, and official opening.

As a witness to the entire process from preparation to establishment of the research institute, Cheng Wu would not have faced many restrictions in entering and exiting here back then.

But Cheng Long was different. He was only a Fifth-stage Inspector. Even though he was quite influential within the inspection station, extending this influence to the tightly hierarchical research institute was undoubtedly as difficult as reaching the skies.

Even so, Cheng Wu failed to steal the Extraordinary Mother Sources back then, but Cheng Long successfully stole three.

This father-son duo truly doesn’t let anyone be at ease!

“Rest assured, Director Yu, as an Intern Inspector, I have come this far relying on my own abilities, so there will naturally be no need to resort to sneaky actions going forward.”

Cheng Ye paused, unapologetically revealing his ambition, and said resolutely, “Even if I want to leave a ‘legend’ here, it must be one that stands openly in front of the research institute, admired by thousands.”

“Inspector Cheng, you are indeed different from other inspectors.”

Yu Erlan smiled with insinuation, the coldness between her eyebrows melting away slightly, seeming to be in a good mood.

“Let’s go.” She stepped forward towards the holding room, her voice coming with her steps, “From the moment you brought Immortal Objects back to Happiness City, there would no longer be any place in the research institute that could stop you from entering and leaving. But this trust… don’t let it down.”

Passing through the entrance gate, Cheng Ye felt quite surprised.

This was clearly a high-risk area for storing Extraordinary Mother Sources, yet there were no guards in sight.

Rather than calling it a heavily guarded holding room, it resembled more an open exhibition hall, where as long as one had the qualification to reach this place, one could freely tour without any additional restrictions.

Moreover, the atmosphere inside was completely beyond expectation, lacking the imagined eerie coldness of a scientific research site. The entire building adopted a staircase design with a hollow center, and a silver-white giant pillar ran through the hollow space.

Around the giant pillar were circularly arranged alloy rooms.

Most intriguingly, these rooms were not the imagined airtight enclosed structures. The entrance had heavy alloy doors, yet the front used large “glass” materials, allowing a clear view of what’s inside, resembling exquisite animal exhibit areas.

Inside the “glass room” on the left, there lay thick fallen leaves and humus soil, with a few short fern plants rooted in the corner, evidently simulating a temperate forest micro-environment.

The infection source in the room was a creature resembling a fox, covered in silver-gray short hair, with its tail splitting into three, agilely leaping and playing among the plant branches.

Occasionally, it rubbed its nose against the “glass,” its pair of golden eyes curiously gazing outside, appearing tame and lively, completely obscuring the ferocity of an Extraordinary Mother Source.

“Will they… run out?” Cheng Ye was utterly stunned.

In his expectations, even with loose management, layers of iron chains should be used to bind these Extraordinary Mother Sources, complemented with various precise instruments for real-time monitoring to prevent their escape from causing a catastrophic disaster to Happiness City.

Yet the scene before him completely overturned his understanding. Although the alloy doors might be crafted with Happiness Alloy, making it difficult to breach, this “glass” didn’t seem sturdy at all; he even felt that in giant form, he could shatter it with a single punch.

“In fact, this glass is essentially Happiness Alloy, just equipped with dual-end display screens to simulate, presenting the transparent effect.”

Yu Erlan raised her wrist and pressed a button on her portable device.

In the next moment, the originally transparent glass instantly darkened, transforming into silver-white Happiness Alloy.

Pressing again, the panel returned to transparency, reflecting the room’s scene clearly.

“Amazing, truly amazing!” Cheng Ye could not help but exclaim, this containment environment genuinely opened his eyes.

“As for your concern about them escaping…” Yu Erlan shifted her tone, looking at him and asked, “Would you like to go inside for a closer look?”

“Hmm?” Cheng Ye hesitated, instinctively turning to her, filled with surprise, “We can go inside?”

“Of course.” Yu Erlan nodded, tapping her device a few times gently, “Most of the Extraordinary Mother Sources formally contained by us are not malicious infection sources; at least… they possess high research value and are relatively controllable.”

As soon as she finished speaking, under Cheng Ye’s astonished gaze, the alloy door holding the fox slowly opened.

Yet surprisingly, although the door opened, the fox suddenly froze, its contour blurred and shrank swiftly to the farthest corner of the room.

Even with the opportunity to escape, it showed no willingness to move, instead exuding an unmistakable fear.

“Ah?”

In a daze, Cheng Ye perceptively sensed the emotions emanating from the fox, astonishingly identical to the fear conveyed to him by the Shrinking Earth Giant Louse earlier.

“Perhaps the research intensity some time ago was a bit much, so it’s somewhat afraid of me?”
