The Incubus System Chapter 864. Acting Innocent
I scrambled to correct the composition of my posture, standing straighter as if preparing for some unexpected inspection.
The goofy grin that had adorned my face moments ago vanished, replaced by a carefully crafted expression of stern neutrality.
After all, how was one supposed to react when a demon hunter, of all people, showed up unannounced at their doorstep?
“M-My apologies, sir,” I stammered. “I thought you were someone else. What brings you to my house, sir demon hunter?” I continued, injecting just the right amount of quiver into my voice.
Nathan seemed to size up the situation, his eyes keen and calculating. His presence exuded an air of authority.
Red was quick to respond to Nathan’s presence. He bared his tiny teeth. A silent protest. I, however, waved my hand down in a calming motion, urging Red to stand down.
At the same time, I instinctively reached out with my telepathic abilities to Foxy and Celia.
‘Nathan is here! Foxy, take Jill with you and hide. Celia, just pretend it’s only us here,’ I urgently instructed.
Before they could respond, I severed the telepathic connection. For now, my mission was clear. Keep Nathan engaged and oblivious to Foxy’s maneuvering with Jill.
Nathan wasted no time with pleasantries. “Did someone break into your house? Or did you hear that noise?” he queried.
I shook my head from side to side, adopting an air of innocence. “No, sir,” I replied smoothly. “I haven’t received any guests tonight,” I added.
Nathan’s gaze, sharp and discerning, bore into mine. His head tilted ever so slightly. “Are you home alone?” he probed once more.
“There are my sis and my pets,” I declared.
This time, Nathan chose not to respond with words.
Instead, he opted for a more physical approach, grabbing my shoulders with a grip that suggested he meant business.
The subtle nudge was an unspoken command to move aside, to grant him access to my house. However, my feet rooted firmly to the ground. Despite the supposed evident difference in our physical strengths, I stood on my ground.
“You need a warrant if you want to search my house, sir,” I asserted, my tone unwavering and laced with a firm resolve. No warrant, no entry.
Nathan shot me a glare, his eyes narrowing. “I don’t want to search your house; I just want to check and make sure there are no demons here,” he clarified.
I knit my brows. “Demons?” I echoed.
Nathan didn’t waste time with elaborate explanations. “Yes. We just received word that some demons are still lingering around after what happened this morning,” he divulged.
With a curt motion, he attempted to push me to the side again, his determination evident. This time, I yielded, I shifted my body to allow him entry. It was a calculated gamble, I needed him inside, but not before ensuring that Foxy had successfully evacuated with Jill.
Just as Nathan crossed the threshold, Celia emerged from the kitchen.
“Who is it, brother?” she inquired. However, her nonchalant demeanor turned into stunned silence as her gaze fell upon Nathan’s demon hunter uniform.
Nathan, unfazed by Celia’s startled reaction, continued his mission with relentless focus. “I’m here to ensure there are no demons lurking around,” he stated, his tone unwavering.
Celia’s eyes widened. I shot Celia a fleeting look.
“Oh, demons?” Celia echoed.
“Don’t worry. I won’t be long. I just wanted to check for a moment,” Nathan assured. “Just make sure your stupid pets don’t bother me,” he added as he glanced at Red.
With that, Nathan walked deeper. His gaze swept the surroundings, a Demon Compass in hand. As he meticulously inspected each corner, I held my breath.
Celia and I exchanged glances.
A small, triumphant smile graced Celia’s lips, telling me that Foxy had successfully took Jill with her. While Nathan, engrossed in his mission, seemed to find nothing amiss. His Demon Compass didn’t waver.

The Incubus System Chapter 865. Fries War
Nathan breezed through my house. My house, though modest, played host to a brief scrutiny that barely lasted five minutes. Every nook and cranny, from the living room to the bathroom,
The only thing that seemed to draw a frown was my sizable bed. It wasn’t the standard single bed. It designed for more than just one occupant.
I could sense the unspoken question in Nathan’s eyes.
In response, I offered a quick justification. “It’s not just for me. My pets occasionally share the space, and my sleeping position can get a bit— chaos. So, I figured a bigger bed would do the trick,” I explained.
However, his response was subdued, minimal. A nod, perhaps acknowledging my explanation, but his focus remained. Nathan’s motives seemed more inclined towards satisfying his own curiosity rather than fulfilling any specific order.
Nathan left without a word.
Closing the door, I took a moment to collect my thoughts before reaching out to Foxy through our telepathic link.
‘He is gone. You can bring Jill back, Foxy,’ I relayed the message.
‘Okay,’ Foxy’s voice echoed in my mind.
I turned to face Celia, who wore a slight frown.
“Why did he suddenly come?” she huffed, her irritation was clear.
I shrugged in response.
“Maybe he thought I had something to do with the previous attack. The organization already put their eyes on me anyway,” I explained, strolling back to the sofa. I stole a bite of the fried fries.
Celia’s expression soured, a playful pout forming on her lips. “Hey, that’s mine,” she complained.
I shot her a mischievous grin, snagging a handful of her French fries. “Now it is mine,” I declared triumphantly, an annoying smirk on my face.
The subtle creaking of the staircase signaled Foxy’s arrival. Foxy and Jill descended from the second floor.
Jill’s eyes locked onto the plate of fries in my hand. “Noo… my fries,” she whined.
Without missing a beat, she joined the food battle.
The living room transformed into a chaotic battlefield of laughter and playful protests.
“Alright, enough of this. Let’s see if there are any survivors in the kitchen,” Celia declared with a laugh.
The duo left me sprawled on the sofa.
Then, Foxy came and perched on the floor, her furry tails swaying as she faced me.
“It seems Mrs. Clea will be late to pick up Jill tonight,” Foxy dropped the bombshell.
I shifted my gaze lazily from my prone position on the sofa, one eye peering at Foxy. “What happened?”
“She is still busy taking care of the incident. They’re still in the park,” Foxy elaborated.
“I see…” I mumbled.
My gaze drifted to the ceiling. The mental gears started turning, contemplating the logistics of Jill’s transportation conundrum. A fleeting thought whispered in my mind… perhaps I should request Mrs. Clea to handle the pickup in the morning.
“Also, I heard they might kidnap you tomorrow,” Foxy dropped another bombshell.
‘Ah, that incident certainly makes them even more impatient to create new soldiers,’ I pondered.
‘The sooner you get Jill out from here, the better,’ I acknowledged.
