Legend of Dragon Son-in-law - Chapter 2657
Chapter 2657: Chapter 2657: The Unfinished Words
Back outside earlier, Jessica had found the place where the King of the Nine Provinces stored his archives.
But because it had been flooded all year round, and there were many spirit beasts in the water, those documents had disappeared without a trace.
Even if there were some documents in the belly of a water snake or something, Julius Reed felt the odds weren’t great.
Now that they’d discovered the second-space version of the Nine Provinces royal manor…
Why not go have a look?
The buildings were identical; at the very least, there was still some hope here.
Even the main hall hadn’t been soaked by water, and there were no signs of human damage.
“Now that you put it that way, we really should take a look.” Jessica nodded. She’d run into the Blood Soul Emperor right after coming in and had shoved this matter to the back of her mind.
Who knew, maybe all the manor’s secrets were stored here.
“I’ll lead the way.” Jessica walked ahead, but after taking just one step she hurriedly turned back and asked, “Ancestor, you don’t mind, right?”
Seven Gem Slope was out now.
Faced with someone whose very name made the Hawthorne clan go pale, Jessica did not dare slack off.
Better coax her first and talk later.
If Seven Gem Slope lost her temper, they’d all die.
“I have no objections at all.” Seven Gem Slope tilted her head and looked at Julius Reed. “My life was saved by him. From now on, here, what he says goes.”
Those words left Jessica and True Lord Nine Nether extremely surprised.
True Lord Nine Nether even gave a thumbs up in admiration.
As expected, a man’s real skill lies in conquering women.
What “living off a woman”!
If you can “live off” a woman like this, that’s real ability.
His level was way up there.
Then he looked at himself, and True Lord Nine Nether could only feel full of helplessness.
The tigress back at his own home really didn’t give him a shred of face.
“Alright…” Jessica was momentarily dazed.
The way she was looking at Julius Reed was extremely strange.
It was as if she hadn’t expected that someone like this could even conquer her own ancestor!
Impressive.
“The archive’s somewhere nearby, but I’m not exactly sure where.” Jessica hurried forward. She kept feeling that her own ancestor was very off.
The aura was different from before, and even different from the rumors.
Why did it feel like her ancestor now really was acting like a woman?
And with Quella Radcliffe already having that natural domineering older-sister look, it made Seven Gem Slope seem even more feminine.
They passed through the courtyard and arrived at the library pavilion in the second-space manor.
In the outside world, this was where the Nine Provinces royal manor’s classified files were stored.
But what would be here, in this place, no one knew.
Jessica didn’t know.
Seven Gem Slope didn’t know either.
This place had originally been built just to suppress her.
She definitely had no idea about what came later.
Pushing open the doors, Julius Reed felt anxious.
Absorbing all that power had made him stronger.
But the stronger he became, the more he wanted to know about his own origins.
The only possible clue was that Swordsman from back then.
Of course, that was assuming the Twin Dragon Jade Pendant hadn’t lied, and that everything Julius Reed saw was real.
And that the rumors’ description of that Swordsman wasn’t wrong.
But for Julius Reed, this was already incredibly fortunate.
At least there was a trail to follow, which was far better than having nothing at all back then.
They came to that delicate little cabinet; Jessica once again entered the code with practiced ease and opened it.
Sure enough!
Inside was crammed full of documents, packed in tight.
The files were pristine, without the slightest sign of age.
It was obvious the environment in here was very good.
Jessica carefully took the documents out and laid them on the table in the main hall.
“There’s something already on here.” Sitting in a chair, True Lord Nine Nether noticed there were already some documents laid out on the table.
“What is it?” Jessica set the files in her hands off to the side and leaned over to look at what True Lord Nine Nether was talking about.
It was a dossier.
There was a portrait on it.
And also a special symbol.
“This is a top-secret file of the Nine Provinces royal manor.” Looking at the symbol, Jessica explained, “Within the manor, different ranks can access different files. Some core-level materials can only be read by the King of the Nine Provinces.”
She pointed at that very peculiar symbol. “This one here, for example, is just one level below the highest classification.”
“I’ve read a lot of the manor’s documents, so I’m pretty clear on how this stuff works.”
After speaking, Jessica began opening the file and organizing it according to its serial numbers.
“What’s it about?”
Julius Reed was very interested.
By normal reasoning, any document the King of the Nine Provinces would sit here reading right before the disaster struck…
Had to be very interesting.
“Funny coincidence.” Jessica chuckled and passed the file to Julius Reed. “It really is what you’re looking for—about that Swordsman.”
“Didn’t expect a file on a single Swordsman to be classified this highly.”
Jessica flipped through it carefully, muttering to herself, “It says here that the tattoos on that Swordsman’s body might be related to this disaster. To resolve the disaster, the King of the Nine Provinces planned to find this Swordsman…”
“The last part is my brother’s final note. He says… he failed, and can only rest here and wait for the world to start anew, then continue to uncover this truth.”
“At the last moment, it seems someone came—my brother’s writing cuts off mid-sentence.”
Jessica frowned deeply, unable to understand. “My brother was a steady man. Why would he be in such a rush?”
“No, that’s not it.”
Julius Reed took the file, looked over the contents, and shook his head. “Have you ever thought about who could even get in here?”
Although the writing style was rather archaic, Julius Reed could still understand it.
Including the illustration.
The drawing was simple; there was no portrait of the Swordsman, only that Nine-Dragon tattoo.
That tattoo seemed to be what everyone was focused on.
“Right! Who could come in here! In theory, this is a family secret—no matter how trusted, even close aides might not be allowed in.” Jessica suddenly thought of someone. “None King?”
None King was the King of the Nine Provinces’ guard.
Previously, because the King trusted him, he’d brought him here to make arrangements for after his slumber.
In the end, None King gave rise to rebellious thoughts; after the King of the Nine Provinces fell into his slumber, he moved him outside.
Then lay down in the King’s bed himself and slept for who knew how many years.
Until he was awakened by the Blood Soul Emperor.
“Impossible.”
Still reading the file, Julius Reed was lightly sketching that tattoo on the tabletop with his finger as he spoke. “A mere servant would absolutely not dare to interrupt his master. If it were None King, the King of the Nine Provinces could have finished writing, sealed the file, and then left, instead of just leaving it out on the table like this.”
“He definitely planned on coming back, but after going out, something unexpected must have happened.”
Julius Reed rested his hand on the table, thinking through what might have happened back then.
Who exactly could have come here and made the King of the Nine Provinces leave in such a hurry?
And without packing anything up.
Anyone who could enter this place had to be someone the King of the Nine Provinces was extremely familiar with.
“Let me ask you this: among the top experts of that era, who had a good relationship with the King of the Nine Provinces?”
Julius Reed looked at Jessica.
