Summary
Zuo Weiyi has never been particularly lucky when it comes to family.
Some people grow up knowing exactly where they belong. Weiyi is not one of them. The people around her often seem more interested in what she can provide than how she actually feels, and after years of dealing with disappointment, she has developed the habit of keeping certain thoughts to herself. It is easier that way.
Most of her energy goes into getting through everyday life. Work needs attention, bills do not pay themselves, and family matters have a tendency to become complicated whenever she thinks things are finally settling down. She does not expect miracles. She would settle for a little peace and quiet.
Instead, she gets questions.
Questions about a night she cannot fully make sense of, questions about people she barely knows, and questions that become increasingly difficult to ignore the more she tries to move on.
The answers seem to lead toward a man she would normally have every reason to avoid.
Shi Yuting occupies a world that feels completely separate from her own. Wealth, influence, status, connections, none of those things have ever played much of a role in Weiyi’s life, yet somehow she keeps finding herself drawn into situations where his name appears again and again. The frustrating part is that every new encounter seems to create more confusion rather than less.
He is not particularly easy to understand either.
Some days he appears distant enough to make conversation feel impossible. Other times his actions suggest he is paying far more attention than he lets on. Trying to figure out where she stands with him quickly becomes one of many problems Weiyi never asked for.
Around them, family expectations, old grievances, hidden agendas, and social pressures continue building in the background. People make decisions for reasons they rarely admit out loud, and good intentions do not always lead to good outcomes.
For Weiyi, the hardest part is not dealing with powerful people or complicated relationships.
It is deciding who deserves her trust.
Because once certain lines are crossed, returning to the life she had before may no longer be an option.
