Summary
By the time Lin Yun is born, the world is already falling apart. Magic has almost disappeared, cities survive behind failing defenses, and people fight over tiny amounts of mana just to make it through another day. The stories about the great age of mages have become little more than old records gathering dust, reminders of a time that feels impossible to imagine for anyone still alive.
Lin Yun has never known that better world. He learns magic under the worst possible conditions, where every spell has to count because wasting mana can cost a life. After spending years scraping by in a place where tomorrow is never guaranteed, he watches the last city finally collapse. That should have been the end of everything.
It isn’t.
Instead of dying, he wakes up in the body of a young man named Mafa Merlin, thousands of years before the disaster that destroyed the world he knew. His new life is far from comfortable. The Merlin family is buried in debt, the business is close to failing, and plenty of people would rather see him disappear than recover. Before worrying about the future of the world, he has to deal with the problems waiting outside his own front door.
The bigger shock comes after he steps outside. Magic is no longer something people desperately fight over. Mana is everywhere, students openly study spells, powerful mages are still alive, and discoveries that disappeared long ago are happening for the first time. To everyone else, this is simply normal life. To Lin Yun, it feels like walking into the stories people used to tell around dying campfires.
He also knows something nobody around him can possibly understand. This peaceful world will not stay that way forever. The places people take for granted, the famous mages everyone admires, even discoveries that seem destined to last forever will eventually become part of a ruined history. Remembering that makes it hard for him to stand by and do nothing.
So Lin Yun starts over, using what he learned at the end of the world to survive at its beginning. He rebuilds his strength, searches for things history almost erased, and slowly changes the lives of people who were supposed to follow a very different path. Whether those changes are enough to stop the future he remembers is something even he cannot answer.
