Summary
If someone asked Hao Ren why a strange girl keeps appearing around him, he probably wouldn’t know how to answer.
A few weeks ago, life was fairly straightforward. He was a university student trying to get through classes, deal with his roommates, and figure out what to do with his future. Now he finds himself constantly dragged into arguments, chased for answers he doesn’t have, and blamed for a situation he barely understands himself.
The girl insists that Hao Ren is connected to something important. Hao Ren insists she has the wrong person. Neither side manages to convince the other.
The problem is that certain things have become difficult to explain away.
Doctors cannot provide a clear answer for the unusual changes Hao Ren begins experiencing. People connected to the girl occasionally appear and behave as though strange events are completely normal. Even stories that sound like obvious fantasy start feeling less ridiculous the more he becomes involved.
What initially looks like a personal misunderstanding gradually grows into something much larger. Hao Ren starts encountering individuals who seem to live according to a completely different set of rules, people who treat impossible things as everyday occurrences and speak about the world in ways that make little sense to an ordinary university student.
Despite all of this, Hao Ren never stops feeling like the least qualified person in the room.
He is not searching for hidden secrets, ancient mysteries, or grand adventures. Most of the time he is simply trying to figure out why all of this is happening to him in the first place. Unfortunately, every answer seems to lead to another question, and every attempt to return to normal life pushes him deeper into circumstances he never asked for.
Part mystery, part urban fantasy, and often unexpectedly funny, the story follows an ordinary young man whose biggest problem should have been passing his exams, not untangling the increasingly strange events that keep finding their way to him.
