Summary
Lu Ming’s father disappeared from his life so long ago that thinking about him gradually became a waste of energy.
There were more important things to worry about. Rent had to be paid, debts didn’t disappear on their own, and his mother’s health had never allowed much room for comfort. While other people talked about family support and connections, Lu Ming learned early that relying on himself was usually the safer option.
Years later, Lu Yaohua suddenly returns.
The timing couldn’t be more inconvenient.
By then, Lu Ming has already accepted that whatever relationship they once had is gone. He isn’t interested in revisiting old arguments, nor does he expect explanations for choices made years ago. Unfortunately, the people arriving at his door seem to have very different expectations.
The meeting goes about as well as anyone could imagine.
Old frustrations surface almost immediately, conversations become increasingly unpleasant, and before long Lu Ming finds himself wondering why he bothered opening the door in the first place.
For someone who has spent years staying out of trouble and keeping his head down, the situation is absurd enough on its own. What makes it even stranger is that not long afterward, several things begin happening that shouldn’t be possible.
At first he assumes he’s mistaken.
Then it happens again.
And again.
Whatever is changing in his life, it arrives at a time when Lu Ming needs it most, although experience has taught him not to celebrate too early. Good luck has never been a regular visitor in his life, and he isn’t entirely convinced that this time will be any different.
