Summary
The Bai Jing everyone knows is easy to deal with.
She trusts people too easily, puts up with things she probably shouldn’t, and spends far too much energy helping others solve their problems. At least, that’s the Bai Jing her friends, family, and boyfriend are familiar with.
Then one day she starts acting differently.
The change is obvious enough that people begin talking about it almost immediately. Arguments she would have avoided before are no longer avoided, favors are no longer handed out freely, and certain people who had grown comfortable benefiting from her patience suddenly discover that patience has limits.
For Bai Jing, however, the situation looks very different.
The memories in her head paint an unpleasant picture of the future, one where she keeps making sacrifices for people who never intend to return the favor. Accepting that outcome makes no sense, especially to a mind built to analyze problems rather than endure them. If a plan leads to failure, the obvious solution is to change the plan.
Simple.
Unfortunately, people are rarely as simple as equations.
Human relationships turn out to be filled with contradictions, hidden motives, and emotional decisions that refuse to follow logic. The more Bai Jing tries to understand the people around her, the more confusing they become.
That confusion only grows after Si Qian enters the picture.
Unlike most people, he doesn’t seem particularly interested in the rumors surrounding her sudden transformation. Instead, he appears content to stand back, observe, and occasionally ask questions she would rather not answer.
Between old grudges, unexpected opportunities, and a future that no longer seems set in stone, Bai Jing finds herself dealing with problems that have very little to do with the original story.
Which is perfectly fine with her.
The original version of Bai Jing may have accepted the role she was given.
This one would rather make her own decisions.
