Summary
Nobody asks Tang Qiu whether she wants to get married.
By the time the wedding day arrives, every decision has already been made for her. Her half-sister disappears from the arranged marriage, the Feng family needs someone to save face, and Tang Qiu becomes the easiest person to sacrifice. The groom waiting at the altar is Jiang Shaocheng, the infamous young master of the Jiang family, a man rumored to be scarred beyond recognition, confined to a wheelchair, and unlikely to survive the year.
The whispers never stop.
Some pity her for becoming a widow before she can even settle into married life, others laugh behind her back, convinced she has been thrown away to marry a dying cripple. Tang Qiu hears every word, yet says very little. Once the marriage contract is signed, she quietly accepts the role everyone else refuses to understand. She cooks for him, helps him through the smallest routines, ignores the scars that make others avert their eyes, and treats him as her husband instead of a burden waiting for the inevitable.
That choice confuses almost everyone around her.
Friends tell her she is wasting her youth on a man who has no future. An old boyfriend refuses to disappear, believing he only has to wait until fate runs its course. Even people within the Jiang family seem more interested in counting down the days than believing their young master will still be around to celebrate another anniversary.
Tang Qiu never argues with any of them. She simply stays.
Living under the same roof slowly reveals things that gossip never could. The man hidden behind the wheelchair is far calmer than the rumors suggest, sharp enough to notice details everyone else misses, and strangely protective whenever Tang Qiu finds herself in trouble. Little moments begin replacing awkward silence, trust arrives before either of them realizes it, and the marriage that started as an obligation gradually stops feeling like one.
Of course, the rumors surrounding Jiang Shaocheng did not appear out of nowhere.
His illness is real, but it is not the only secret he has been carrying. Behind the fragile image shown to the outside world lies another side that very few people have ever seen, one capable of changing far more than Tang Qiu’s marriage. By the time she discovers who her husband truly is, she has already made a promise to stand beside him, whether the world believes he is a cripple… or something else entirely.
