Summary
Chu Luo’s life changes in a way that would sound absurd to most people.
One moment she is the High Priestess, a woman whose name carries weight across the land, respected for her knowledge of medicine, feared for her understanding of poison, and trusted to handle matters ordinary people could barely comprehend. The next, she wakes up in a completely unfamiliar era, inside the body of a teenage girl whose life is already a mess.
The original owner of the body had few people she could rely on. Problems at home never seemed to end, school was hardly any better, and most days felt like a battle she was slowly losing. By the time Chu Luo arrives, the girl’s reputation has already been ruined in the eyes of many people around her.
Fortunately, dealing with difficult people is not exactly new territory for her.
What surprises Chu Luo more is the modern world itself. Strange machines, unfamiliar customs, endless examinations, and rules that make little sense to someone from another era become part of her daily routine. While everyone else is worried about grades, university applications, and future careers, she is still trying to understand why a small device can suddenly start ringing in her pocket.
Of course, adapting does not mean staying quiet.
The people expecting an easy target quickly discover that the new Chu Luo is anything but accommodating. Arguments rarely go the way they planned, and situations meant to embarrass her often end badly for the people who started them.
Then there is Li Yan.
Li Yan is another source of trouble.
Chu Luo hears his name long before she properly meets him. Depending on who is telling the story, he is either someone best avoided or someone powerful enough that nobody dares speak openly around him. Chu Luo finds both descriptions slightly exaggerated, though she has to admit there is something unusual about him.
What starts as a few unexpected encounters gradually turns into a familiar presence neither of them seems able to avoid.
