Summary
By the third year of her marriage, Shen Yan had stopped expecting much.
The excitement she once felt is long gone, replaced by awkward dinners, unanswered concerns, and the uncomfortable realization that she never truly became part of the Fu family as she had hoped. While outsiders see her as Fu Hang’s wife, the people inside the household seem to view her very differently. No matter how much effort she puts into maintaining the relationship, she always feels as though she is standing on the wrong side of a closed door.
Things become even worse after an incident involving Fu Hang’s widowed sister-in-law, Lin Xing.
What should have been a chance to clear up a misunderstanding quickly turns into something else. Opinions are formed before explanations can be given, accusations spread faster than facts, and Shen Yan suddenly finds herself carrying responsibility for a situation she insists has nothing to do with her. The reaction of the Fu family hurts more than the incident itself. People she has lived with for years seem far more willing to doubt her than believe her.
Fu Hang is no exception.
For Shen Yan, that realization changes everything.
She spent years convincing herself that patience would eventually solve their problems. Looking back, she begins wondering whether she was the only person trying to save the marriage in the first place.
Walking away is not an easy decision, but staying starts to feel even harder.
As Shen Yan gradually rebuilds her life, she discovers that many things she once ignored are worth paying attention to. Old assumptions begin falling apart, certain people reveal sides of themselves she had never noticed, and opportunities she would have overlooked before start appearing one after another.
The woman the Fu family remembers is quiet, accommodating, and willing to endure almost anything.
The version standing in front of them now is becoming harder to recognize.
And as the distance between Shen Yan and her former life grows larger, some people begin realizing that losing her may have been a much bigger mistake than they first believed.
