A few months ago, An Lin’s biggest problem was money.
His father had vanished without much explanation, a mountain of debt was left behind, and people demanding repayment seemed to appear everywhere he went. Between avoiding trouble and figuring out how to survive the next day, An Lin had little time to think about anything else.
Then somebody offered him a chance that sounded completely ridiculous.
Under normal circumstances, he would have laughed and walked away. Unfortunately, normal circumstances had already stopped applying to his life.
The next thing An Lin knows, he is stepping into a world where immortals exist, cultivators fly through the skies, and stories that should belong in fantasy novels are treated as ordinary facts. What initially feels like incredible luck quickly becomes much harder to appreciate once he realizes how many people around him can crush him with a single finger.
Life as a cultivator turns out to be nothing like he imagined.
The academy he enters is nothing like the place he imagined beforehand.
Many of the students are famous long before graduation, some come from powerful cultivation families, and others possess talents that attract attention wherever they go. Compared to them, An Lin often feels out of place. The recommendation that got him through the door only makes things worse, since plenty of people are curious about why someone with his background was given such an opportunity in the first place.
Then there is the strange system that arrived with him.
Most of the time, An Lin would be perfectly happy pretending it doesn’t exist. Unfortunately, that isn’t really an option. The system has a habit of involving itself at inconvenient moments, offering rewards for things he never planned on doing and creating situations that leave him questioning whether it is actually trying to help. After a while, even An Lin stops assuming that anything connected to it will make sense.
Still, for someone who started with creditors at his door and no clear future ahead, even a chaotic cultivation world has its advantages.
There are powerful sects to explore, unusual companions to meet, and places so strange that common sense becomes almost useless. The farther An Lin travels, the more he begins to realize that the cultivation world is far less serious than the legends make it sound, and far more dangerous than the jokes would suggest.
For better or worse, his ordinary life is already gone.
The only thing left is to see what kind of trouble waits around the next corner.
